Switchboard for medical clinics
Symptom triage, appointment booking, refill intake, and post-visit follow-up — across phone, SMS, portal, and web. Your MAs and front desk stop drowning in the 30 same questions, so they can handle the patient who actually needs them.

PHI, HIPAA & PHIPA: Use BYOC
Switchboard does not currently sign Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) and does not hold a SOC 2 report. Clinics that need to process PHI should use the BYOC tier, where the full stack runs in your own cloud account under your cloud provider's BAA. In Ontario, PHIPA keeps your clinic responsible for personal health information: on BYOC you choose the region (a Canadian one, for example) and the data stays in your account. Switchboard does not yet offer a PHIPA agreement for the shared cloud. On the shared-cloud tier, keep messages free of PHI. Explore Dedicated & BYOC plans.
Clinical & Emergency Safety Notice: Switchboard provides administrative workflow, patient intake, and scheduling automation only. It does not provide clinical diagnosis, medical triage advice, or emergency dispatch services. If a patient is experiencing a medical emergency, they must dial 911 or visit the nearest hospital emergency department immediately.
What it sounds like in production
- Patient (SMS / Web Chat)Hi, I woke up with a sharp pain in my lower right side and feeling feverish. Can I see Dr. Chen today?
- Clinic AI Front DeskI’m glad you reached out. Because lower right abdominal pain with a fever can be serious (such as appendicitis), let me check two quick safety questions right away: Is the pain severe enough that you cannot stand up straight, or are you currently experiencing any nausea or vomiting?
- Patient (SMS / Web Chat)I can stand, but it really hurts when I walk. A little nauseous but haven't thrown up.
- Clinic AI Front DeskThank you for letting me know. Because of your symptoms, I have immediately flagged this for our on-call triage nurse, Sarah RN, who will review and call you within 3 minutes. In the meantime, if the pain becomes sudden and unbearable, please proceed directly to the nearest emergency department.
- Patient (SMS / Web Chat)Okay, I'll keep my phone nearby. Thank you.
- Clinic AI Front DeskNurse Sarah has accepted the escalation and is opening your chart now. We'll be in touch momentarily.

Appointment density meets phone tag
Monday at 8:02am, 14 voicemails are already stacked. Three are refill requests, five are “can I get in today, my throat is killing me,” two are insurance questions, one is a post-op follow-up, and three are no-shows from Friday you haven’t rebooked.
Your MA is triaging this list by ear while also rooming patients, prepping charts, and fielding the walk-in at the counter. By 10am, you’re behind. By noon, you’re double-booking. By 4pm, someone with a real problem gave up and went to urgent care.
Patient messaging through the portal isn’t much better — half your patients don’t check it, and the other half send a three-paragraph symptom description that nobody has time to read carefully until Tuesday.
Switchboard triages inbound across every channel the patient actually uses. Low-acuity questions get answered instantly from your knowledge base. Refill requests get routed to the right provider with an auto-filled intake. High-acuity symptoms get escalated to a human in under 30 seconds. Your team gets their mornings back.
What Switchboard does for medical clinics
Symptom triage pre-screen
Patient describes their symptoms on SMS or web. AI follows a clinician-designed triage protocol, flags red-flag symptoms for immediate escalation, and routes everything else to the right visit type.
Appointment booking into your EHR
Once triaged, the AI offers same-day, next-day, or telehealth slots based on acuity and your scheduling rules — and books directly into your EHR calendar. No double-entry.
Rx refill intake
Patient requests a refill. AI collects medication + dose + pharmacy + last refill date, checks it against your policy (e.g., controlled substances always go to provider), and routes to the right reviewer with a clean one-line summary.
Post-visit follow-up + patient-reported outcomes
24-48 hours after a visit, a short wellness check goes out. Worsening symptoms auto-escalate. Stable patients get logged as resolved. No more chart-reviewing old visits wondering how Mrs. Patel is doing.
Specialty-specific workflows
Dermatology intake with photo upload. Cardiology pre-visit questionnaires. OB/GYN pregnancy-check timelines. Switchboard is a shell — you bring the protocols, we automate them across every channel.
Pre-visit paperwork + insurance capture
New patient packet sent via SMS 48 hours ahead. Driver’s license + insurance card photos OCR’d and verified. Patients arrive already checked in; front desk greets them by name.
